In May 2000, my dad decided to buy a new car--a bright yellow (his favorite color) 2000 C5 Corvette.  He picked it up at the factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he and my mom were given the royal treatment.  After visiting with old friends, they drove  to St. Louis, where his sister lives.

I flew out to St. Louis and spent the night at my aunt's, and the next morning my dad and I hit the road.  He wanted to travel on the old Route 66 as much as possible, with help from a book called Route 66 : Traveler's Guide and Roadside Companion.  This book was an interesting read, apart from the fact the author thinks that three blocks  is anywhere between 200 feet and 10 miles.  I tried to throw it out the window a few times, but that Corvette is full of modern devices such as a heads-up display that would alert my dad anytime I started thinking about it.

We drove for three days and ended up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I flew home because I had to go back to work.  Another friend of my dad's joined him there and they drove the rest of the way together.

We had a great time
